KNJIGA ŠT. o5 - 183. DEL (Povest O Treh Bratih - The Tale Of The Three Brothers) (o3oo)

222 - Trije Bratje - The Three Brothers

POTTER: You're not still mad at him, are you?

GRANGER: I'm always mad at him.

WEASLEY: Luna.

POTTER & GRANGER: Luna.

WEASLEY: "Keep off the dirigible plums."

MR. LOVEGOOD: What is it? Who are you?

                           What do you want?

POTTER: Hello, Mr. Lovegood. I'm Harry Potter. We met a few months ago.

              Could we come in?

GRANGER: Where is Luna?

MR. LOVEGOOD: Luna?

                           She'll be along.

So how can I help you, Mr. Potter?

POTTER: Well, actually ...

It was about something you were wearing on your neck at the wedding. A symbol.

MR. LOVEGOOD: You mean this?

POTTER: Yes.

              That exactly.

What we've wondered is, what is it?

MR. LOVEGOOD: What is it?

Well, it's the sign of the Deathly Hallows, of course.

GRANGER & WEASLEY: The what?

POTTER: The what?

MR. LOVEGOOD: The Deathly Hallows.

I assume you're all familiar with "The Tale of the Three Brothers."

GRANGER & WEASLEY: Yes.

POTTER: No.

GRANGER: I have it in here.

"There were once three brothers ...

... who were travelling along a lonely, winding road at twilight."

WEASLEY: Midnight. Mom always said "midnight."

                But "twilight's fine. Better, actually.

GRANGER: Do you want to read it?

WEASLEY: No. It's fine.

GRANGER: There were once three brothers ...

... who were travelling along a lonely, winding road at twilight.

In time, the brothers reached a river too treacherous to pass.

But being learned in the magical arts ...

... the three brothers simply waved their wands and made a bridge.

Before they could cross, however ...

... they found their path blocked by a hooded figure.

It was Death, and he felt cheated.

Cheated because travelers would normally drown in the river.

                But Death was cunning.

He pretended to congratulate the three brothers on their magic ...

... and said that eaach had earned a prize for having been clever enough to evade him.

The oldest asked for a wand more powerful than any in existence.

So Death fashioned him one from an elder tree that stood nearby.

The second brother decided he wanted to humiliate Death even further ...

... and asked for the power to recall loved ones from the grave.

So Death plucked a stone from the river and offered it to him.

Finally, Death turned to the third brother.

                A humble man ...

... he asked for something that would allow him to go forth from that place ...

... without being followed by Death.

And so it was that Death reluctantly handed over his own Cloak of Invisibility.

The first brother traveled to a distant village ...

... where, with the Elder Wand in hand ...

... he killed a wizard with whom he had once quarreled.

Drunk with the power that the Elder Wand had given him ...

... he bragged of his invincibility.

But that night, another wizard stole the wand ...

... and slit the brother's throat for good measure.

And so Death took the first brother for his own.

The second brother journeyed to his home ...

... where he took the stone and turned it thrice in hand.

To his delight, the girl he'd once hoped to marry before her untimely death ...

                ... appeared before him.

Yet, soon she turned sad and cold for she did not belong in the mortal world.

Driven mad with hopeless longing ...

... the second brother killed himself so as to join her.

And so Death took the second brother.

As for the third brother ...

... Death searched for many years but was never able to find him.

Only when he attained a great age did the youngest brother ...

... shed the Cloak of Invisibility and give it to his son.

He then greeted Death as an old friend and went with him gladly ...

... departing this life as equals."

MR. LOVEGOOD: So there you are. Those are the Deathly Hallows.

POTTER: I'm sorry, sir. I still don't quite understand.

You're not still mad at him, are you? (Si še vedno jezna nanj?)
I'm always mad at him. (Vedno sem jezna nanj.)
Luna. (Loona.)
Luna. (Loona.)
"Keep off the dirigible plums." ("Ne dotikajte se vodljivih sliv.")
What is it? Who are you? (Kaj je to? Kdo ste?)
What do you want? (Kaj hočete?)
Hello, Mr. Lovegood. I'm Harry Potter. We met a few months ago. (Dober dan, g. Liupka. Sem Harry Potter. Srečala sva se že.)
Could we come in? (Smemo naprej?)
Where is Luna? (Kje je Loona?)
Luna? (Loona?)
She'll be along. (Kmalu bo prišla.)
So how can I help you, Mr. Potter? (Kako ti lahko pomagam?)
Well, actually ... (Pravzaprav ...)
It was about something you were wearing on your neck at the wedding. A symbol. (Zanima nas nekaj, kar ste nosili na poroki okoli vratu. Simbol.)
You mean this? (Tale?)
Yes. (Ja.)
That exactly. (Točno ta.)
What we've wondered is, what is it? (Zanima nas, kaj je.)
What is it? (Kaj je?)
Well, it's the sign of the Deathly Hallows, of course. (Simbol svetinj smrti seveda.)
The what? (Česa?)
The what?
The Deathly Hallows. (Svetinj smrti.)
I assume you're all familiar with "The Tale of the Three Brothers." (Verjetno poznate zgodbo o treh bratih.)
Yes. (Ja.)
No. (Ne.)
I have it in here. (Tu notri je.)
"There were once three brothers ... (Nekoč so živeli trije bratje,)
... who were travelling along a lonely, winding road at twilight." (ki so ob somraku hodili po stezi.)
Midnight. Mom always said "midnight." (Opolnoči. Mama je vedno rekla "opolnoči".)
But "twilight's fine. Better, actually. (Ampak tudi somrak bo v redu. Še boljši.)
Do you want to read it? (Boš ti bral?)
No. It's fine. (Ne, kar izvoli.)
There were once three brothers ... (Nekoč so živeli trije bratje,)
... who were travelling along a lonely, winding road at twilight. (ki so ob somraku hodili po vijugasti stezi.)
In time, the brothers reached a river too treacherous to pass. (Čez čas so prišli do nevarne reke, ki je ni mogoče prečkati.)
But being learned in the magical arts ... (Ker pa so bili podučeni v umetnosti čaranja,)
... the three brothers simply waved their wands and made a bridge. (so bratje preprosto zamahnili s palicami in naredili most.)
Before they could cross, however ... (A preden so ga prečkali,)
... they found their path blocked by a hooded figure. (jim je pot zaprla zakrita postava.)
It was Death, and he felt cheated. (Bila je Smrt. Počutila se je ogoljufano,)
Cheated because travelers would normally drown in the river. (saj so popotniki ponavadi utonili v reki.)
But Death was cunning. (Toda Smrt je bila prebrisana.)
He pretended to congratulate the three brothers on their magic ... (Pretvarjala se je, da so jo bratje navdušili s čaranjem)
... and said that eaach had earned a prize for having been clever enough to evade him. (in je vsakemu ponudila nagrado, ker so se ji uspeli izogniti.)
The oldest asked for a wand more powerful than any in existence. (Prvi je prosil za najmočnejšo čarobno palico, kar jih je.)
So Death fashioned him one from an elder tree that stood nearby. (Smrt mu jo je naredila iz bližnjega starega drevesa.)
The second brother decided he wanted to humiliate Death even further ... (Drugi je hotel še bolj ponižati smrt.)
... and asked for the power to recall loved ones from the grave. (Prosil je za moč, da bi ljubljene obudil iz groba.)
So Death plucked a stone from the river and offered it to him. (Smrt je potegnila iz reke kamen in mu ga dala.)
Finally, Death turned to the third brother. (Končno se je obrnila k tretjemu bratu.)
A humble man ... (Ponižen mož)
... he asked for something that would allow him to go forth from that place ... (je prosil za nekaj, kar mu bo omogočilo, da gre dalje)
... without being followed by Death. (brez Smrti za petami.)
And so it was that Death reluctantly handed over his own Cloak of Invisibility. (Smrt mu je nerada dala svoj Plašč nevidnosti.)
The first brother traveled to a distant village ... (Prvi brat je odpotoval do oddaljene vasi)
... where, with the Elder Wand in hand ... (in s Prapalico ubil čarovnika,)
... he killed a wizard with whom he had once quarreled. (s katerim se je nekoč sprl.)
Drunk with the power that the Elder Wand had given him ... (Pijan od moči se je hvalil,)
... he bragged of his invincibility. (da je nepremagljiv.)
But that night, another wizard stole the wand ... (Toda tiste noči mu je drug čarovnik ukradel palico.)
... and slit the brother's throat for good measure. (in za dobro mero bratu še prerezal vrat.)
And so Death took the first brother for his own. (Smrt si je tako vzela prvega brata.)
The second brother journeyed to his home ... (Drugi brat se je odpravil domov,)
... where he took the stone and turned it thrice in hand. (kjer je trikrat obrnil kamen.)
To his delight, the girl he'd once hoped to marry before her untimely death ... (Na njegovo veselje se je pred njim prikazalo ljubljeno dekle,)
... appeared before him. (s katerim se je pred njeno prerano smrtjo želel poročiti.)
Yet, soon she turned sad and cold for she did not belong in the mortal world. (Toda obujeno dekle je kmalu prevzela žalost, saj ni sodila v svet smrtnikov.)
Driven mad with hopeless longing ... (Nor od brezupnega hrepenenja.)
... the second brother killed himself so as to join her. (si je drugi brat vzel življenje, da bi se ji pridružil.)
And so Death took the second brother. (Smrt si je tako vzela drugega brata.)
As for the third brother ... (Tretjega pa je Smrt)
... Death searched for many years but was never able to find him. (iskala mnogo let, a ga ni našla.)
Only when he attained a great age did the youngest brother ... (Šele v starosti je najmlajši brat)
... shed the Cloak of Invisibility and give it to his son. (snel Plašč nevidnosti in ga podaril sinu.)
He then greeted Death as an old friend and went with him gladly ... (Nato je pozdravil Smrt kot staro prijateljico)
... departing this life as equals." (in je rade volje z njo zapustil to življenje kot njej enak.)
So there you are. Those are the Deathly Hallows. (No, tako. To so svetinje smrti.)
I'm sorry, sir. I still don't quite understand. (Oprostite, a še vedno ne razumem povsem.)
